Privacy Policy – ImageTextFinder
ImageTextFinder is a Chrome extension that searches visible webpage text and text recognized locally inside supported webpage images, then lets users select or copy image text.
Data processed and purpose
When the user invokes the feature, visible webpage text and supported image content are handled only to provide search, OCR, location highlighting, selection, and copying. The current site origin is used to enforce permissions and site settings.
Local OCR and network requests
OCR runs in the user’s browser with packaged models. Image content, search terms, OCR results, and copied text are not sent to the developer or an external OCR, AI, analytics, advertising, or remote-configuration server.
When already displayed pixels cannot be read directly, the extension may re-request the exact approved HTTP(S) source URL from its original host. Credentials and referrer are omitted and redirects are rejected. This is not an upload to an external OCR service.
Local storage and cache
Structured OCR results may be stored in a bounded local IndexedDB cache under salted, hashed site scope and image-content digest keys. Raw page and image URLs are not retained as cache keys or in production logs.
Settings, per-site choices, and review state may be stored in Chrome-managed local storage. The extension does not use a product account, developer product-data backend, or cloud synchronization.
Permissions
storage manages settings and the local OCR cache; scripting registers the finder only on approved sites; offscreen runs packaged OCR work while needed; activeTab supports a user-invoked toolbar fallback; and sidePanel provides the combined finder.
HTTP and HTTPS site access is optional and requested only after an explicit user action. Without permission, the extension does not read or inject into the page and Chrome Find remains available.
Advertising, analytics, and sale
Version 1 contains no ad SDK, ad UI, ad-network request, user analytics, or remote configuration. User data is not sold or used for personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising, credit, or unrelated purposes.
Deletion and permission revocation
“Clear OCR cache” removes OCR records. “Delete all local extension data” removes the OCR database, settings, review state, and local cache salt, then creates fresh defaults.
Site permissions are separate and can be revoked through “Remove all website access” or Chrome extension controls. Uninstalling the extension removes extension-owned local storage through Chrome’s normal extension data lifecycle.
Support limits and safety
ImageTextFinder does not bypass authentication, DRM, browser security, or access restrictions. Chrome pages, the built-in PDF Viewer, inaccessible frames, Canvas, video, and WebGL are unsupported or not guaranteed. OCR can be incomplete or wrong, so verify important text against the source.
Version 1 does not support incognito mode. Production diagnostics exclude search terms and user content, and local data is not used to track users across sites.
Limited Use and contact
The use of website content and information received through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
